SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh says his decision to contest the next state election is to fulfil the wish of his late son to develop rural parts of the state, especially Dayak areas.

He said it was the wish of his late son Dato Andrew Wong that the Dayak community in Sarawak would not be left in terms of infrastructure, political, social and economic development.

“I promise to continue to fight for people not only in Bawang Assan but all over Sarawak, especially for the Dayak community,” said the Bawang Assan assemblyman during a meet-the-people session at Rumah Franky Bawok in Rantau Panjang, here recently.

Wong said even at the age of 77, he is still healthy and strong and is able to be actively involved in the political arena to serve the people of Sarawak irrespective of race, religion and culture.

On the coming state polls, he said many professionals have expressed interest in contesting on a PSB ticket as they saw the party as a new platform which could consolidate the Dayak community under one umbrella.

“When the time comes, we may be able to win several seats which would enable us to define policies and directions to help the rural people,” he said.

Earlier, Wong declared open the newly-completed Rantau Panjang Multi-Purpose Hall which was built at a cost of RM300,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme.

Among those present were PSB Bawang Assan Bumiputera Unit chairman Andrew Shilling, PSB Rantau Panjang Zone head George Gerunsin, and Penghulu Jeffery Sut.
