Indonesian minister injured in stabbing incident

JAKARTA: Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto sustained injuries on the stomach when he was stabbed by a man with a pair of scissors in Banten today.

In the incident at 11.50 am West Indonesian time, Wiranto, 72, who arrived in Alun-alun Menes, Pandeglang to attend an event with the local people was getting out of a car when the man attacked him.

He was later rushed to the Menes Medical Centre in Pandeglang before being transferred to the Pandeglang General Hospital for further treatment.

The Indonesian police in a statement today said a policeman and two members of the public were also injured in the incident.

It said police had detained two suspects identified as Syahril Alamsyah, 31 and Fitri Andriana Sunarto, 21. – Bernama
