MIRI: The newly completed traffic light near Niah Bridge will ease the traffic flow and provide convenience to road users playing the Batu Niah-Suai road.

Assistant Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing,  Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus said the old T-junction was always heavy with traffic especially during school and peak hours.

“The traffic light will ease the traffic flow from Batu Niah, Sepupuk, and Miri to Suai, “ Rosey said after the symbolic switch of the traffic light yesterday.

Councilors Anuar Ahmad, Sulaiman Ahmad, Kadijah Shiekh Kassim and Penghulu Haw Min Wai were among those present at the function.

According to Rosey, many accidents occurred at the T-junction before.

Many complaints had been brought up by the local people to her, which she forwarded to the Public Works Department for action to be taken.

Rosey, who is also Bekenu assemblywoman, said that students from the surrounding areas (Batu Niah, Sepupuk and nearby longhouses) who used motorcycles and cars to go to SMK Suai were among those who had to use the T-junction, which contributed to the traffic jams.

“Now, the jam is no more, and hopefully with it, there will be no more or lesser accidents,” she said.
