KUCHING: Sarawak Esports Association (Sesa) is sending 12 gamers to represent Sarawak in the Esports Grand Final Championships at Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

The event will take place on Oct 12-13 in conjunction with the National Sports Month 2019.

Three gamers will be vying for the FIFA 2019 title while another three in the PES19 (pro evolution soccer 2019).

Aidil Afiz Azri, 20, Hazwan Faiq Hailwan, 16 and Ammar Adi Yusof Zulkifli, 21, will compete in the FIFA 2019 while Mohd Ehsan Wahab, 27, Alif Zulhaikal Ashamadi and Azeemaizan Othman, 26, in the PES19 (pro evolution soccer 2019).

They were selected from 192 participants during a selection here on April 13-14 which was conducted by Sesa and State Youth and Sports Department.

Meanwhile, six gamers from Team NKS Bintulu, who won the Sarawak Day Esports Cup here on July 22, will take part in the Mobile Legend Bang Bang Challenge.

They are Cyprian Saka Ajan, 22, Iszuannul Izreen Razain, 21, Muhammad Amirul Husni, 22, Alex Ng Sin Fatt, 15, Alexson Gendin Hun, 19 and Fernando Morriantez Manggau, 17.

Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan hailed the national event as a good platform for Sarawakian gamers to gain exposure and experience at a higher level.

“Although we do not have athletes (gamers) selected (in national squad) to 30th SEA Games in The Philippines on Nov 30 to Dec 11, this does not mean we have failed,” he said after presenting the state colours to the contingent at the Baitulmakmur Building in Petra Jaya yesterday.

“We have 12 gamers competing for the first time at national level and it shows that there are indeed hidden talents in Esports (in Sarawak),” he added.
