MIRI: Dayak non-governmental associations (NGOs) here are seeking help from the public to raise funds to help a month-old infant girl undergo heart surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur.

The child, Wienie Song, was born Sept 9 and diagnosed a day later with a congenital heart condition.

Her parents, Ryan Ujang and Rosa Injan Taja, said they were told by a specialist doctor here that if their first-born does not undergo immediate surgery, she would only be expected to survive for six months.

Rosa said the cost of the operation is about RM100,000 – beyond what the couple can afford.

“As such, I have no choice but to appeal to NGOs and the public to help me and my husband cover the cost of the surgery,” she said when met yesterday.

Rosa added that the doctor here examined Wienie on Oct 7 and had referred the infant to IJN for urgent examination.

She will be departing for IJN with her baby on Oct 14.

Those wishing to help can contact Rosa on 019-8545119 or channel donations directly to her Maybank account 1611 2750 9461.

Present with the couple and their infant yesterday were Vicky Gulin Shandom of Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS), Elias Lipi Mat of Dayak Think Tank Association Sarawak (DTTAS), Ugik Jalit of Terabai Menua (TM) and TM welfare committee members.
