KAPIT: The water supply interruption to households here, which saw residents experiencing foul-smelling murky water from their taps for several days since the start of this month, was due to the malfunctioning of the dosing system at the water treatment plant.

This was confirmed by Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit, who was briefed on the matter during a visit to the plant at Nanga Man here on Wednesday.

“The staff briefed me that the cause of the water supply disruption was the malfunctioning of the dosing pump. Although it has been restored, they are monitoring the situation very closely and are on standby to ensure it runs smoothly,” he told reporters.

The briefing was carried out by Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Kapit assistant divisional engineer Frezzal Faizal and the plant’s engineer-in-charge Dominic Galau.

Jamit said his visit to the plant was to meet JBALB officers and staff to find out the cause of the disruption, which saw residents voicing their concern in social media.

“The people are naturally concerned because they want clean and reliable water supply. I hope such incidents will not happen again because dirty water is a health hazard,” he said.

He also called on JBALB staff especially those attached to the water treatment plant to work hard to ensure Kapit folks are able to enjoy clean and reliable water supply at all times.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the Health Department here has been collecting water samples over the past few days for testing to ensure it is safe for consumption.
