SANDAKAN: Members of the public came in droves to visit the Bank Negara Malaysia (BMN) Financial Carnival at Harbour Mall here yesterday.
The two-day carnival launched by Sabah State Secretary Datuk Haji Hashim Paijan featured booths put up by government agencies, banks, financial institutions and companies offering financial services.
According to Hashim, the carnival aimed to educate the local community on financial aspects, whether for individual purpose, or for their companies.
“This carnival is beneficial to the people so that they could learn how to manage their money, and understand more about products that are available for them in order to assist them in their financial management,” he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Governor of BNM, Abu Hassan Alshari Yahaya, when met at the carnival here said that the carnival here would also provide an opportunity for the Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to learn more about financing products, loans and assistance provided to help them in their businesses.
“One of the aspects that we are focusing on in this carnival is how to boost entrepreneurship among the local community here. I urge the local community to come and visit the carnival and take this opportunity to learn more about BNM financial products, so that they could better understand their own financial aspect,” he said.
Abu Hassan also said that the carnival had invited 12 companies with 350 job vacancies to Sabahans.
“We see that there is a need for the people in Sabah to be able to generate more income, hence we have brought in companies that are offering jobs here so that the locals would have the opportunities to fill in these vacancies. We hope that the locals would be able to increase their income,” he said.
