SIBU: In just two days Sibu Cancer Care Society has collected a total of RM449,706.77 for 2-year-old Enthaniel Lee’s bone marrow transplant.

The society’s chairman Dr Clement Chen revealed the amount as of 5pm yesterday in a press statement.

Among the latest donors were Sibu MP Oscar Ling who gave RM5,000, Tung Hua Class of 78-83 (RM5,000) and Nancy Ting (RM10,000).

The society had set out to raise RM500,000 to enable Ethaniel to undergo a bone marrow transplant scheduled on Nov 6.

Donations poured in not only from Sibu but from as far as West Malaysia and overseas.

The two-year-old boy is suffering from an aggressive and rare form of childhood leukaemia called Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukaemia (JMML).

The only cure is through bone marrow transplant. The transplant and treatment will cost about RM650,000.

The society made a decision to raise the required sum by the end of this month after having already received RM150,000 from Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).

Ethaniel is undergoing chemotherapy at Subang Jaya Medical Centre. His father Lee Soon Luen, 29, had quit his job to take care of him.

The boy’s mother Ting Mei Wen, 31 is now the sole breadwinner of the family, earning about RM2,500 a month as an administration clerk.
