Petrosains Science Fest makes pit stop

KUCHING: Petrosains Science Festival organised by Petrosains, The Discovery Centre, held in conjunction with its 20th anniversary, made its third stop at Kuching Civic Centre from 9.30am to 6pm yesterday.

The event will continue today.

Enjoy Petrosains PlaySmart and learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in fun and interactive ways.

“For the past 20 years, Petrosains has provided informal learning of STEM.

“Through the festival, we want to bring STEM even closer to the community and provide more credible and interesting learning in STEM directly to the masses.”

“We hope to benefit the community in Sarawak by sharing meaningful and impactful learning experiences while providing a fun and enjoyable time to the visitors during the festival,” said Petrosains chief executive officer Fedora Zuikifli in a press statement.

She said that as the corporate social responsibility arm of Petronas, Petrosains aspires to make science a culture in the nation and produce future generation of scientifically literate and critical thinkers in the nation.

“This year the celebration is extended to all four Petrosains PlaySmarts to include Kota Kinabalu (Septr 28 and 29), Kuantan (Oct 5 and 6), Kuching and Johor Bahru next weekend. The main event will be held at Petrosains Suria KLCC and the Esplanade, KLCC Park on Nov 1-3.”

The festival provides a unified platform where partners from corporations, industry players, government linked companies and agencies, academics and institutions work together to inspire and instill appreciation of STEM in the community by bringing a diverse mix of activities from interactive to innovative workshops interesting exhibitions, educational talks, fun science shows, entertaining performances and many more, she said.

Partners for the Kuching leg are Sarawak State Goverment as the venue provider, UBTECH, Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), Tourism Malaysia, British Council, Sarawak Information System (SAINS), Sarawak Skills Development Centre, Saito University and Swinburne University.

Visitors can expect educational hands-on activities, workshops, science shows on pressure and chemistry, robotic exhibition, Zumba sessions, science busking amongst others.
