State banquet marks TYT 83rd birthday


Taib cuts the cake to mark his official birthday celebration witnessed by Raghad on his left, Abang Johari on his right, and others.

MIRI: A state banquet to mark the 83rd birthday of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud was held at Pullman Miri Waterfront on Saturday.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, deputy chief ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, state cabinet members as well as local leaders and dignitaries were among those who gathered to celebrate Taib’s official birthday.

Accompanied by wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, the Head of State was treated to a video presentation featuring leaders and people from various backgrounds extending birthday wishes and greetings, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony.

Guests were entertained by Istana Budaya’s Okestra Traditional Malaysia that was specially flown in from the federal capital, while singers Bob Yusuf, Fairuz Misran, Ermi Sanisha, Carrie Geres, Hael Husaini and other local artistes took turns belting out popular and traditional songs.

Performers from Sarawak Arts Council and National Department of Culture and Arts Sarawak also featured during the banquet.
