KUCHING: Silat remains the best platform to showcase Malay culture and heritage to the public, says Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

As a silat enthusiast himself, the assemblyman believes in upholding this Malay martial art, in that the new generation of Malays would inherit this legacy and strive to prevent it from going extinct.

“I encourage all organisations engaged in silat across Sarawak to continue holding more activities.

“The onus falls upon us, the Malays, to preserve this culture,” he said during the Keris Naga Dua Silat Masters Association’s dinner at the old Sarawak Legislative Assembly complex here last Sunday.

Fazzrudin later commended the organiser for holding the event, which recognised those who had completed silat course.

The dinner was held in conjunction with the ongoing Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE) 2019 Heritage Festival.

The grand highlight of OKSHE 2019 will take place at Padang Merdeka this Oct 26, where Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the ceremony.
