KUCHING: A woman lawyer in Sarawak has been banned from practising law for life, while four others were suspended from performing their duties.

Outgoing Inquiry Committee chairman Frank Tang, who revealed this when handing over duties to John Ko yesterday, said there is also a case pending to ban another lawyer for misconduct.

“The IC has taken action against six defendant lawyers for misconduct, and the action includes a woman lawyer whose licence has been banned for life,” he said.

According to a press release, the appointments of IC committee members are made by the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak.

The IC accepts complaints against errant advocates without any payment, but the complaint must be supported by documented evidence.

Ko, who is a very senior advocate and former Judicial Commissioner, is joined in the new committee for the term July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2021 by Adrian Chew (secretary), Gabriel Kok, Antonio Sim, Wee Wui Kiat, Victor Lau, Paul Anyie Raja, Lo Ming Lh-Wuen, Tan Kee Heng, Yong Sie Mee, Sunny Si, Alvin Yong, Pamela Lau, and Louis Ng.

The term of the previous committee ran from July 1, 2015 until June 30 this year.
