KUCHING: Three lorries which were allegedly trying to smuggle out goods worth more than RM1 million into Indonesia were stopped by the General Operations Force (GOP) near Kampung Serikin, Bau at around 6pm yesterday (Oct 16).

Checks on the lorries revealed that it was filled with 165 gunny sacks of used clothing, 400 packs of animal feed, 2,400 drink packets and 115 boxes of various food items.

“All three lorry drivers aged between 32 to 44 were also arrested. The lorry and the seized items have been handed over to the Bau District Police headquarters for further action,” said GOP 11th Battalion commanding officer Supt Rosdi Inai in a statement today.

The operation was launched based on collected intelligence on the suspected activity.

During the operation, ten GOP personnel were joined by two officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The suspects had also failed to produce valid documents to transport the items out of the country, which is an offence under Section 135 (1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967.

“Based on the early information that we have gathered, the lorries were heading to a neighbouring country where the demand for the goods that they were transporting is high,” he added.
