SIBU: Cyclists who are interested in joining a bicycle fun ride are urged to report at the Bukit Lima Indoor Stadium tomorrow before 8am.

Sibu Swan Cycling Club (SSCC) chairman Ngu Ing Lee said the fun ride is one of the events held to mark the National Sports Month (NSM) celebration, which is centred at the Bukit Limas Indoor Stadium.

The other events to be held during the two-day celebration include futsal, wushu challenge, 3-on-3 basketball, walk-a-mile, aero ride, football penalty, bike autoshow, e-sport PUBG mobile, aerobic, Zumba, tchoukball, tug of war and beyblade.

“Anyone interested to take part in the bicycle fun ride can come on Oct 19 before 8am since there is no official registration,” he added.

SSCC is the co-organiser while the main event is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sibu Division under chairman Terrence Tan.

The objective is to create awareness among the people of the importance of getting involved in sporting activities for a fit body and a healthy mind.

The NSM is a refinement of the National Sport Day (NSD) which used to be celebrated on the second Saturday of October every year since its launching that is aimed at making Malaysia a sporting nation.

However, this year, the date to stage the event is no longer fixed on the second Saturday of October but at a date deemed suitable for the organisers to carry out the sporting activities.

Ngu said the fun ride route will cover 20 km, starting at Bukit Lima Indoor Stadium to Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and back to Jalan Wong King Huo.

“It is yet to be known how many participants will come and join the fun ride. The more the better.”

Sibu MP Oscar Ling is expected to officiate at the event at 7.45am on Oct 19 at Bukit Lima Indoor Stadium.
