A fireman cuts the grill latch for the firemen to enter the premises.

SIBU: Nine firemen and four policemen were deployed to a shop house at Ulu Sungai Merah here after members of the public complained of decomposing body stench emanating from the premises on Wednesday.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said they received a call at 3pm notifying them of the odour suspected to come from the second floor of the premises.

As they failed to locate the owner, Bomba and police had to cut the main door’s grill latch to enter the building after police issued the warrant.

They later proceeded to the second floor where they found the source of the stench.

It was a cat carcass believed to have died about a week ago.

The operation ended at 4.17pm.
