BINTULU: The setting up of federal government-proposed Village Community Management Council (MPKK) in Sarawak is likened to two captains operating one ship, says Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) P217 Bintulu political bureau chief Ukar Kelayang.

“This situation will lead to misunderstandings that could cause the ship to capsize,” he said when presenting the Chief Minister’s special allocation to 26 longhouses here yesterday.

He thus advised the people in villages and longhouses in the division to think logically before accepting or setting up the MPKK ‘to avoid any overlap in management and most importantly to avoid disunity among the community at the grassroots level’.

He said the role of the current Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) was still relevant at the grassroots administration level.

During the event, Ukar presented RM309,000-allocation to 26 longhouses under Jepak, Samalaju and Kemena constituencies.

PDP Jepak chief Tuai Rumah Banyang Dato, PDP Samalaju chief Hillary Mawan Antar and a PDP supreme council member Saging Layang were among those present at the ceremony.

Meanwhile in Tatau, about 80 ‘ketua masyarakat’ and ‘ketua kaum’ from the district opposed the establishment of MPKK in Tatau during a meeting yesterday.

Pemanca Gerosen Jubin, Penghulu Sanok Magai, and other longhouses chiefs and village chiefs from Tatau were among those present at the meeting held at Tatau District Office.
