KUCHING: A 26-year-old female teacher was arrested by the police around 11.45am yesterday (Oct 18) for allegedly abusing one of her four-year-old pupils at a kindergarten in Jalan Chawan.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani, who confirmed the arrest, revealed that the alleged abuse took place on Oct 17.

“It is believed that the teacher stapled the victim’s left ear which was later discovered by the boy’s father who picked him up from the kindergarten at around 11.30am,” said Awang Din in a statement today.

The victim alleged that a female teacher had stapled his left ear, which caused the injuries.

The next day, a police report was lodged by the victim’s father at 9.44am, which led to the arrest.

The case will be investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

After her statements were recorded, the suspect was released on police bail.

It was reported on Oct 4 that a teacher who had earlier stapled a 10-year-old boy’s left ear as a form of punishment in a Likas primary school in Sabah, was transferred to another school after the boy’s parents withdrew a police report they had made earlier.

A warning was issued by the Sabah Education Department to the teacher, while its director, Mistirine Radin, said that it was decided that the transferring the teacher away to another school was “best for all parties”.
