Programme to vaccinate Sabah temporary detention centres personnel

SANDAKAN: A total of 480 officers and personnel working in four temporary detention centres (TDC) in Sabah have received Hepatitis B and Influenza vaccination injection in the programme initiated by the National Security Council (NSC).

In Sandakan, 92 personnel who work at TDC Sibuga received their shots during the programme yesterday.

According to the NSC Sandakan head, Mohd Fadzli Zainal Abidin, the programme was conducted to protect officers and personnel who are in direct contact with the detainees and are at risk of getting contagious diseases.

“The detainees, especially those without self-identification documents, have poor health condition. Hence, the personnel who are working in direct contact with the detainees are at risk of getting diseases. This programme is conducted to prevent the personnel from getting contagious diseases from the detainees.

“To date, TDC Sibuga does not any personnel who have fallen sick because of these contagious diseases, but we are trying to pre-empt it from happening,” Fadzli said.

The programme is conducted simultaneously in TDC Kota Kinabalu, TDC Papar and TDC Sibuga, while TDC Tawau will conduct the programme on November 1.

The programme is the first of its kind and have received strong support from the Sabah Health Department.
