KUALA LUMPUR: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leadership will develop Sarawak based on its own mould, said Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to the Chief Minister, the state leadership will strive to develop Sarawak to fulfill the needs of the young people in the state.

“We have our own mould and Sarawak leadership, GPS will develop our state using the mould of ‘Anak Sarawak’.

“We will not depend 100 per cent on the federal (government) but we have our own suitable approach according to the needs of ‘Anak Sarawak’,” Abang Johari said during the ‘Makan Malam Anak Sarawak’ event at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here, last night.

The ‘Anak Sarawak’ dinner, which was organised in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2019 (LBAS 2019) event, was graced by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib.

Abang Johari said the approaches taken by his administration included outlining policies based on the four main thrusts under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“Among the four main thrusts, the first is modern agriculture using modern technology, second is tourism and services in the cities as well as rural areas.

“The third is infrastructure development such as roads especially coastal roads, water supply and electricity, and the fourth is to develop higher education,” he pointed out.

Abang Johari said policies outlined by the state administration are intended to steer Sarawak towards becoming a high income state by 2030.

“All of these are for our youths and let Sarawak has its own culture where we have multi-racial unity,” he said.

Meanwhile, LBAS 2019 organising chairperson Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in his speech said the annually held LBAS is a very important event especially the dialogue sessions with ‘Anak Sarawak’.

“These Sarawak dialogue sessions are very important where we provide a platform for Sarawak youths to give their opinions with regard to local issues especially that relate to them.

“These approaches are important to ensure our generations in the state truly understand what they will inherit in the future,” he said.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, also said that LBAS can be acknowledged as the biggest ‘Anak Sarawak’ gathering in the country.

“This gathering should be acknowledged as a platform for all of us to show our affection towards our beloved state,” he said.
