Missing fisherman found alive by SAR team, suffers ankle injuries

KUCHING: A fisherman who was feared missing at Pantai Puteri, Santubong since Oct 17 was found alive by a joint search and rescue (SAR) team around 11am today.

It is believed that the victim who was setting up his fishing net, accidentally fell into a ravine and momentarily lost consciousness.

After regaining consciousness, the victim made his way to a nearby hut, where he decided to stay put until he was found by the search party this morning.

He was found in a weak state and suffered injuries to his ankles, believed to be caused by the fall.

The victim, 28-year-old Hasrizan Rahman, from Kampung Santubong was later sent to the Sarawak General Hospital after receiving first aid from medical staff.

Hasrizan was reported missing at the Santubong police station around 6.30pm on Oct 19.

He was last seen on Oct 17 around 7am near to a golf resort and had failed to return home since.

A report was received by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) of a missing person around 7.30pm on Oct 19.

A joint search and rescue team made up of Bomba, Malaysia Civil Defence Force, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Royal Malaysia Police, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and villagers started the operation which covered a three-kilometre search radius from where he was last seen at 9am this morning.

The operation ended at around 11.30am.
