MLNG Jewel Marathon 2019 raises RM150,000

BINTULU: Some 3,500 runners, coming from diverse backgrounds, took part in the second edition of MLNG Jewel Marathon yesterday, organised by Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), a subsidiary of Petronas.

There were five categories – the full-marathon (42km), half-marathon (21km), 10km, 5km and the 1km Kids Dash.

Moreover, a total of RM150,000 was raised during the event – the proceeds from which would go to the Kuching Austic Association, Mental Health Association of Sarawak and St John Ambulance Haemodialysis Centre Bintulu.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi witnessed the presentation of the funds to the beneficiaries, performed by managing director and chief executive officer of Petronas LNG 9 Sdn Bhd and Malaysia LNG Group of Companies, Mohamed Syazwan Abdullah @ Laga Jenggi.

In his remarks, Mohamed Syazwan said he was encouraged by the public support towards the event, themed ‘Passionate About Running’.

“The response has been very encouraging, as all categories were taken up within 80 hours after the opening of the registration,” he said, adding that MLNG Jewel Marathon 2019 was meant to promote healthy lifestyle to the local community.

“We are also committed to supporting causes that promote better health for the people of Bintulu,” he added.

Moreover, Mohamed Syazwan said enriching the lives of those in need was also among the main goals of the event, stating that the group was committed to improving the wellbeing of the communities across
Sarawak.

“For that, I thank all the runners who have contributed to this good cause. This is a practice that Petronas wish to carry on as an organisation, wherever we operate in,” he said.
