MIRI: Womenfolk in Sarawak will play an important role in determining the government of the day come the next state polls, says Works Minister Baru Bian.

The PKR Sarawak chairman said much like in the country, Sarawak has more female voters than males, meaning women in the state are more politically aware and are conscious of their duties as citizens.

“Women will be the force that will make the difference in our next state election, and I urge our women to make a concerted effort to harness your power and exert your influence to help us realise our dream of making Sarawak and Malaysia a better place to live,” he said.

Baru, whose text of speech was read by PKR Baram chairman Roland Engan during the PKR Baram Women dinner here on Sunday, said women have a big influence in how a household votes, as they are the ‘glue’ that holds the family together.

He also said that with the state polls just around the corner, it was important for the party’s Women wing to work closely with the main body in the effort to change the political landscape of the state.

“For the first time in the history of PKR and PH (Pakatan Harapan), we will be entering the state election as the government of the day (at federal level).

“This is the golden opportunity for PKR to change the political landscape of our beloved Sarawak. The evidence is clear that the past leaders of Sarawak, who have been majority male, have not performed well in governing,” he said.
