SIBU: A mini petrol station should be set up at the area around Kampung Belawai in Belawai to facilitate the locals in refuelling their vehicles.

Malaysia Bumiputera Contractors Association (PKBM) Sarawak chairman Dato Sri Abang Aditajaya Abang Alwi highlighted the crucial need for the area to have a petrol station, as the nearest station is miles away from Kampung Belawai, which has a population of about 4,000.

“This is due to the restriction on the purchase of gasoline by the operator of the station in Tanjong Manis which has made many residents choose to buy gasoline in Sibu.

“For me it’s not fair to have a limit on oil purchase – only 10 litres can be sold even if the car can take up 30 litres. That’s an example. For me, that doesn’t make sense,” he told a media conference after nomination of committee members for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Tanjong Manis branch at its premises on Sunday evening.

He suggested that petrol stations could also be set up in other locations such as Jerijeh and Rajang villages, with over 1,000 residents each.

As for the longhouses, he said he would visit them to check on their population.

On another matter, he said he planned to build a PKR office in Kampung Belawai, with a hall capable of accommodating 2,000 people.

The election for PKR Tanjong Manis branch will take place on Nov 3.

Abang Aditajaya is one of the candidates for the chairman’s post and he would be challenged by Dr Raduan Serap.
