KUCHING: A two-storey house doubling as a swiftlet farm in Sarikei was raided by the authorities yesterday for operating without license.

Forest Department Sarawak led a joint raid at a housing area in Jalan Empurau 28, Jalan Nyelong By-Pass, after receiving complaints from the public who were irked by the loud noises from that particular house.

Also joining the raid were enforcement personnel from Land and Survey Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Sarikei District Office and the police.

“The raiding team found that the house had been modified to become a swiftlet farm. The owner of the premises also failed to produce any permit or license to operate a swiftlet farm.

“Therefore, the team seized all items found used for the swiftlet farm operation,” said a statement.

It also explained the confiscation of the items were made under Section 33(2) b of the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998 (Chapter 26), which concerned using a house as swiftlet farm without permit from the Controller of Wildlife.
