SEBUYAU: The setting up of Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is politically motivated, says Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

He said MPKKP is a means of the PH government to get the support of the people in Sarawak with the aim of taking over its administration.

Julaihi said there was really no necessity for MPKKP be set up in the state because the existing Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) had been performing well in serving the people in villages.

“The setting up of MPKKP is not genuine in helping the people, but a political agenda to penetrate the rural areas to gain support with the ultimate aim of becoming the state government. The people ought to reject it.

“If the MPKKP is genuine in helping the people, the process should go through the proper channel like the Federal Secretary office or discussed through the Joint Committee co-chaired by Batu Bian (Minister of Works) and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

“MPKKP is out to disunite the people,” Julaihi said, adding that the JKKK is a mould incepted by Sarawak, and which has been in existence for a very long time.

He said this at a gathering with 60 community leaders and village chiefs from Sebuyau constituency, and more than 10 councillors from Simunjan District Council (SDC) who unanimously disagreed with the setting up of MPKKP.

Simunjan District Officer Abdul Khalid Manaf and Sebuyau sub-district SAO office Ajis Ahmad were also present at the gathering.

Later, when declaring open the Kpg Sg Arus Melayu community hall, Julaihi said the government was making the right move to build the coastal road, which has become a popular route for the people travelling from one end of the state to another.
