New Ko-Best Sarawak targets to register 5,000 members

KUCHING: The newly established Koperasi Bersatu Malaysia Berhad (Ko-Best) Sarawak Chapter targets to register 5,000 members in the state by next year.

Ko-Best national vice president 1, Datuk Johan Mohamad said membership is open to the public and not only members of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

He also revealed that a membership drive will be held from Nov 18 to 22 in Kuching, Sibu and Miri or Bintulu covering the southern, central and northern zones respectively.

“The launch will be quite a big event. We might call a minister from Parti Bersatu to officiate.

“The principal objective of the cooperative is to provide a platform for members to strive and attain economic prosperity and sustainable livelihood,” he said yesterday after a meeting to introduce Ko-Best Sarawak at a hotel here yesterday.

Johan is one of the two Sarawakians elected to the national committee of Ko-Best besides Wan Hosiani Wan Hamid who was elected as board member.

Ko-Best held on Oct 14 in Kelana Jaya, Selangor was officiated by Minister of Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof who is also Bersatu supreme council member.

Johan added that the membership drive in Sarawak will not only focus on membership registration but also to get members to buy shares in the co-operative.

He stated that yesterday’s meeting saw 130 attendees including some from Lawas and Mukah, adding that committees will be set up for the three zones soon.

Ko-Best had established a holding company known as Best Holdings Sdn Bhd with the subsidiaries- Best Trading Sdn Bhd, Best Agro Sdn Bhd, Best Technologies Sdn Bhd and Best Development Sdn Bhd .

“Yayasan Best had also been established to provide an avenue for members to seek various forms of assistance to establish business of their own,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ko-Best Sarawak executive office bearers are Wan Yusof Ascar Wan Ali as Ko-Best Sarawak chairman, Wilfed Landong (deputy chairman), Duke Janteng (secretary) and Ismawi Muhamad (treasurer).

Azahari Osman, Alexander Frusis, Siti Sara Udin, Sulaiman Sahar and Benjamin Martin are board members.

Wilfred who spoke on behalf of the committee said Ko-Best Sarawak will hold business expo and community services soon.
