MIRI: The construction of the second Malaysia Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Chapter’s Kidney Dialysis Centre is expected to be completed by end 2020.
“The RM6 million project located at PermyJaya next to the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Miri will support and complement the existing dialysis centre at Jalan Bulan Sabit,” stated Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin while officiating at MRC Miri Chapter’s Staff and Kidney Patients Welfare Association at Mega Hotel on Saturday.
Lee, the chapter’s Kidney Dialysis Centre’s chairman pointed out that the new centre will cater to patients from nearby areas like PermyJaya, Tudan and Kuala Baram.
He explained that the present centre which was set up in 1996 has served for the past 23 years.
“We started with ten patients and the centre has recorded some 326 patients. The number of patients keep increasing. I’ve been told that there are 70 patients placed by hospital under waiting list to receive haemodialysis treatment from the centre.”
Lee said that public and corporate donation has been funding the dialysis centre as 90 per cent are getting subsidised treatment. He thanked the centre’s staff for their dedication to provide the best medical service to patients.
Also present were Lee’s wife Datin Christina Kong, MRC’s Miri Chapter’s Kidney Dialysis Centres’ general operation manager Jong Jing Kwong and the association’s chairman Vincent Roy.
