BINTANGOR: A total of 150 Meradong headmen (tuai rumah) yesterday voiced their disagreement towards the setting up of the Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) in their area.

According to Meradong Longhouse Headmen Association chairman Ranti Ayai, MPKKP is not acceptable to Meradong residents, particularly longhouse folk.

“There is no room for the setting up of MPKKP in Meradong, hence we unanimously reject it,” he said in a press statement.

“Setting up of MPKKP would compromise the existing unity and harmony among the longhouse community. The tuai rumah appointed by the state government are tasked as grassroots leaders to look after the affairs of residents of the respective longhouses.”

According to him, the headmen find MPKKP an insult as it showed the federal government did not recognise the role they play in the community.

He added the headmen would go to the ground to explain to the people in their respective longhouses the ulterior motive for setting up MPKKP.
