KUCHING: The coming State Budget 2020 will see some exciting news for Bumiputera farmers as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will announce some goodies in line with the state’s agricultural revolution during the budget announcement next week.
Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar revealed that the state agricultural sector will see some attractive incentives for Bumiputera farmers which could effectively improve their income, in line with the state government’s vision to become a high income state by the year 2030.
At the same time, he said the incentive would also boost the state’s agricultural sector to drive the state to become a net food exporter by the year 2030.
“Let us wait and see what will Abang Johari announce next in the 2020 state budget – some exciting things to develop Sarawak to become a high income state by the year 2030, particularly an agricultural revolution for the Bumiputeras,” Wan Junaidi revealed.
He said this in his address at the Minor Rural Project (MRP) and emergency relief fund presentation ceremony at is Santubong Parliamentary Service Centre at Jalan Kulas, Satok here this morning (Nov 2).
He urged the Malays and Dayaks to be involved in the state government’s agenda to develop the agricultural sector so not to just become a bystander.
“The Malays and the Dayaks, you should not just watch from the sidelines while the Chinese only do all businesses. You must also get involved so that Sarawak can become a net food exporter by the year 2030.
“Don’t just think of enjoying life only. You must also think of the future for your children. Listen to and participate in the agenda of the state government which is inclusive to all communities in Sarawak,” he said.
Abang Johari is expected to table the State Budget for 2020 in the coming State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Nov 4 next week.
On Oct 27 in Sri Aman, the chief minister said he would propose, during the budget speech, on ways in which Sarawak could generate more funds in order to finance bigger amount of development expenditure needed by the state.
“We will develop Sarawak using our own funds. I know some people are doubting and saying, ‘is Abang Jo sure of what he is doing?’. Don’t worry, we can find ways to get money.
“I cannot reveal it now, just wait for my speech on Nov 4 when I table the budget for Sarawak,” he said when launching the 2019 Pesta Benak (Tidal Bore Festival) in Sri Aman on Oct 27.
Abang Johari on Oct 29 also hinted some good news for the state civil service for the State Budget 2020, assuring that the state was not badly affected by the economic downturn, and that investors were still coming in because of stability.
