KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has brushed off claims that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) held a workshop recently to prepare for the 12th state election.

When asked about the workshop, Abang Johari reacted with surprise.

“That was a pre-Budget workshop. It’s not preparing for the state election. Who told you? I don’t know when is the election. When it comes, it comes. Why worry?” he told reporters yesterday.

The next state election is due in 2021.

On another matter, Abang Johari said he would reveal details concerning Petronas’ sales tax, among other matters, when presenting the state’s budget tomorrow (Monday) during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

When probed for details, he declined to reveal more, telling reporters to wait.

“It will be mentioned in my budget what we are going to do. You just wait until Monday. You wait-lah,” he said.

He was asked to comment on the government’s next course of action following the expiry of the Oct 31 deadline for payment of the 5 per cent sales tax on petroleum products.
