The furniture auction, run by More Design Asia, attracts over 200 people.

KUCHING: MJC City Development, a subsidiary of Mudajaya Corporation Bhd, has launched its first pop-up store at the Artisan Market Place in Papillon Street Mall.

Inspired by the busy schedule of urbanites and flourishing online businesses, the Pop Up Store serves as an unmanned showroom for multiple goods, which can be purchased via the vendors’ websites.

Moreover, the customers can also call MJC staff should they wish to see the products first before purchasing.

The highlight of the launch last weekend was a furniture auction, run in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur-based company ‘More Design Asia’.

This event attracted over 200 people, who placed their bids on various contemporary furniture pieces. In addition, there were flea market stalls offering a variety of goods and services.

These stalls were manned by four young entrepreneurs.

According to Mudajaya Land Sdn Bhd director Samantha Lee, the flea market was meant to teach young children to be financially literate and also to instil in them the entrepreneurial spirit.

She added that 10 per cent of proceeds raised would be contributed to charity.
