LABUAN: A foetus was found trapped inside the sewage treatment plant in Taman Mahkota Impian, Jalan Bukit Timbalai by Indah Water Consortium (IWC) maintenance staff, here yesterday morning.

The IWSC’s staff were carrying out scheduled maintenance work around 8 am, when they were shocked to find the foetus trapped underneath the rubbish in the sewage treatment plant for the 144 houses in the housing estate.

Labuan police chief, Supt Muhamad Farid Ahmad said an autopsy was scheduled for today (November 5).

“We’re trying to determine the circumstances that led to the remains being discarded at the waste treatment plant… and the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code,” he said.

The sex of the foetus is not known and it is believed to have been dumped 24 to 36 hours ago as maintenance work was carried out on the sewage plant on November 1.
