SFC says death of staff on duty reported to state DOSH

KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has clarified that the death of their personnel on duty has been reported to the State Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and that investigation is ongoing.

It made the clarification in a press statement yesterday following two news articles titled ‘DOSH grades S’wak public sector overall D’ and ‘S’wak records 27 occupational fatalities so far, DOSH aiming for lower fatality rate” which were respectively published in The Borneo Post on
Nov 1 and on Borneo Post Online
on Oct 31.

SFC denied that ‘(DOSH) discovered this incident from media reports’ as reported in the articles, saying it had reported the incident to DOSH and investigation was still on-going.

“A media release was issued by DOSH after SFC reported the incident.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of our dear colleague. His death is a great loss to the company. On behalf of SFC corporate citizens, we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” the statement said.

State DOSH director Dr Nor Halim Hasan informed at the state-level seminar on DOSH for the public sector last week that Sarawak had registered one occupational fatality in the public sector so far this year.

He was quoted as saying that an employee of SFC died as a result of a fall while on duty at Semenggoh Wildlife Centre in Padawan near here.

“We discovered this incident from media reports and investigated the case. The incident happened on Aug 4,” he said.
