KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is grateful to the Sarawak government for not giving up on the housing project at Sungai Bedaun, which is an area under his parliamentary constituency.

According to him, the Sungai Bedaun housing scheme was a joint federal-state project during the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) federal administration.

However, the Sarawak government took over the project after Pakatan Harapan (PH) took hold of Putrajaya following its victory in the 14th general election last year.

“The Sungai Bedaun housing scheme was meant to resettle members of extended families living in villages across Kuching, Kampung Buntal and Kampung Sungai Lumut, (where) more than 300 houses were set to be built (in Sungau Bedaun).

“When PH took over the federal government, the project stalled but now, it is reactivated by the Sarawak government – 100 per cent. Thank you, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he said in a statement yesterday, issued in response to the tabling of the 2020 State Budget by Abang Johari on Monday.

Wan Junaidi also praised the Sarawak government for initiating the housing projects in Darul Hana, Kampung Tabuan Melayu and Kampung Sejingkat – all of which are regarded as strategic places.

“I am thanking the Chief Minister for these housing projects, which could change the face of Kuching City and the suburban areas, apart from providing more comfort and convenience to the residents there.

“I’m also happy with the allocation to upgrade Demak Industrial Park and Sematan Industrial Estate,” he said, referring to the industrial parks in his parliamentary constituency.

On the 2020 State Budget, Wan Junaidi described it as being ‘development-centric, people-centric and rural-bias’.

He was also pleased that the budget would focus on developing the agriculture sector in the rural areas, including assisting farmers and fishermen maintain their livelihood.

The allocations would also be channelled to develop the educational sector, particularly those involving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), digital economy programmes and human resources, said Wan Junaidi.

“The GPS-led Sarawak government is moving to the right direction,” he added.
