SIBU: The Sessions Court sentenced a labourer to a year in prison yesterday for committing mischief by fire which caused RM30,000 in damage to a car.

Mandy Mohamad Sulong, 32, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine.

Based on the charge sheet, he committed the offence last Friday at about 11pm in Jalan Kampung Hilir when he lit coconut husks and threw them into a car.
