MIRI: Lubok Antu member of parliament Jugah Muyang has appealed to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government to channel part of the RM224 million allocation for the development of rural roads in Sarawak under Budget 2020 to his constituency.

He said funds are required for the construction of roads to connect Aiman Resort Batang Ai to Nanga Delok, as well as to upgrade Jalan Ulu Skrang.

“I’m referring to the inclusive development policy in Budget 2020.

“The federal government plans to improve basic infrastructure coverage for rural areas and the RM224 million allocation is expected to benefit some 145,000 people.

“Therefore, I really hope that the road connecting Aiman Resort Batang Ai to Nanga Delok can be included in that allocation, along with the upgrading of Jalan Ulu Skrang,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Jugah said the proposed road to Nanga Delok would definitely improve connectivity within the area of the Batang Ai hydroelectric dam.

“This road will also be the main alternative road for residents in Lubok Antu, especially those who reside within the area of Batang Ai dam.

“The infrastructure will also play an important role in boosting the socioeconomic development of locals,” he said.

Jugah added that the road could provide access to outside markets and encourage local farmers to get involved in agricultural activities on a larger scale.

“Every aspect of development should include remote and rural areas so that every community can enjoy the progress.

“All of this will rapidly transform the economy of the people of Lubok Antu,” he said.
