SMK Riam wins multiple inventor awards in Seoul

MIRI: SMK Riam’s two teams at the Korea Cyber ​​International Genius Inventor Fair (CIGIF) 2019 in Seoul on Nov 2-3 won several awards.

Team Tborneo comprising Natalie Gituen Liso, Law Zhen Yen, and Allycia Nanu Bong won the World Inventors Association (WIA) Gold Medal and Special Award for producing natural flavouring in power and cube form from daun tubu (Pycnarrhena tametacta) to replace monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Team Yucava comprising Daniel Dennis, Nurnaziha Hasmady, and Eugenia Lavang Jalong won the Silver Medal and the Asian Invention Creativity Association (AICA) Special Award for an eco-friendly replacement for plastic spoons.

Teachers Forinna Rosini Lanity, Law Sie Siek, and Enjila Ales also received the CIGIF Teacher Achievement Special Award.

In a press release yesterday, SMK Riam principal Normah Abd Latiff said some 70 teams from 12 countries including Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, Canada, and Indonesia competed in the finals.

Normah also thanked the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research; Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA); Miri District Education office; SMK Riam parent-teacher association; parents; teachers; and all who supported the school directly or indirectly.
