KUCHING: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian today alleged that his cell phone had been “bugged” by certain parties.

Without substantiating his claim, the Local Government and Housing Minister said cell phones could serve as a ‘weapon’ in terms of publicity and others, and because of this he suspected that his cell phone had been bugged.

He made this allegation when opening the SUPP Annual Delegates Conference 2019 at the party’s headquarters here, with 252 Central Committee (CC) members in attendance.

Prior to alleging that, Dr Sim talked about how the party should improve its publicity through technology such as cell phones and mobile network or Internet.

He said SUPP should not go on publishing the party’s newsletter but opt for cell phones to circulate the latest information and policies of the government.

“Handphone is so important. Everybody has a handphone but the handphone is also a weapon in terms of organising, publicity and harassment.

“I suspect my phone (is) always bugged… I suspect lah,” Dr Sim said.
