KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government will strive to continue supporting village security and development committees (JKKK) in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Sarawak government has allocated RM100 million to support JKKK next year.

“As announced in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government will allocate RM100 million next year to support the committee. This shows that the GPS government strives to uphold JKKK in the state,” Uggah said when officiating at a fundraising dinner organised by JKKK Taman Malihah Phase 1 and 2 on Friday.

“Fret not, because with the allocations announced by Abang Johari, we are able to handle ourselves. We, as your elected leaders, will try our best to provide assistance.”

He announced grants of RM20,000 each for the two JKKK, RM3,000 for cultural training, RM3,000 for each of the women’s bureaus, and RM20,000 for storehouse repairs.

When tabling the 2020 State Budget, Abang Johari said the JKKK allocation would cover operational expenses, including funds for activities, meeting allowance payments, and monthly allowances for JKKK chairmen and secretaries.

The chief minister said the government recognised the important role and significant contributions of JKKK as a grassroots movement to ensure the safety and prosperity of villages in Sarawak.
