MIRI: Bead crafting can be a lucrative source of income for those in the rural areas, says Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.

In stating this, he pointed out that as businesses today operate in a highly competitive global environment, creativity is crucial towards success.

“Creativity is what fuels big ideas, challenges entrepreneurs’ way of thinking, and opens the door to many business opportunities. It is the key to move forward.

“Never underestimate your handicraft products, including those made from beads, as it could become a lucrative business with huge potential to be developed further,” he said during the closing of the ‘Bengkel Loom Manik’ at Dynasty Hotel here recently.

Dennis also encouraged the participants to embrace information and communications technology to stay competitive and thrive in their businesses.

He said online business is preferred by today’s consumers and entrepreneurs should adopt appropriate technologies to improve competitiveness.

“Through social media, entrepreneurs could increase sales by promoting their products online, and I believe that if done well, bead businesses can even turn you into becoming a millionaire,” he pointed out.

The one-day workshop, which was organised by PBB Telang Usan Women, was attended by some 70 participants mostly from the interior areas of Telang Usan.

The aim of the programme was to raise awareness of the potential of beadwork industry and to educate the participants on how to make a bead loom for their beaded handicraft products.

“We hope the knowledge and experience that all participants gained today will lead you to something better in the future,” he added.

Also present were PBB Telang Usan women chief Cr Margaret Nawan, branch deputy chairman Charles Balan Seling and vice-chairman Jarau Braim.
