KUCHING: State Reform Party (STAR) president Lina Soo has challenged Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) to move a motion in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to allow Sarawakians to vote on whether the state should remain in Malaysia.

“Don’t just talk outside DUN. Political parties and especially Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) should put a resolution (in DUN) first.

“What they are doing (now) is wrong, it is incorrect.

“Why refer to the prime minister to give us an independence referendum?” Soo asked, referring to SUPP as having stated that it would continue to consult with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the federal government on the matter.

Speaking to reporters at the court complex here yesterday, she challenged SUPP to prove its sincerity in fighting for Sarawakians by getting two of its lawmakers to
propose and second a motion in the DUN.

“Go to DUN, don’t just talk outside DUN or do only political rhetoric…that is not the process,” she said.

During SUPP’s Annual Delegates Conference here over the weekend, party members voted in favour of, among others, a resolution calling for a referendum for Sarawakians to decide whether they want to remain in Malaysia.
