KUCHING: State legal counsel Dato Sri JC Fong has invited Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong to a meeting at 3pm today over allegations she had made against him during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting last week.

According to a letter dated Nov 14, 2019 sighted by The Borneo Post, the meeting is to take place at the cafeteria of the DUN complex in Petra Jaya here.

The meeting will function as a platform for Yong, also a  lawyer, to publicly declare that she unequivocally waive her parliamentary immunity against legal proceedings for what she had uttered in the DUN chamber and also, to repeat what she had said about Fong at the DUN chamber.

The letter also mentioned that Fong wished to seek legal redress for what he alleged as false and defamatory allegations Yong had made against him inside the DUN chamber, by instituting defamation action in court against her.

“I trust you will not deny me the constitutional right to seek legal redress with regard to the false and defamatory allegations you made against me in violation of Standing Order 20(2)(m) of the Dewan’s Standing Orders. I can assure you there will be security guards present in the Dewan’s premises to ensure you will not be ambushed or harassed,” said Fong in the letter.

The bone of contention is that Yong on Nov 6 commented on Fong and his daughter when they were not at the chamber to contest her allegations. However the DUN Speaker had directed his secretary to expunge Yong’s comments on Fong and his daughter. The incident occurred when Yong was debating the 2020 State Budget.
