KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching is calling for donations to support Charity without Borders (CWB) 7 which starts in three weeks.

This collaboration with 4×4 Bintulu Club will bring food aid, a medical team, dentistry services, solar lighting and educational support services to villages in Baram from Dec 5 to 8.

Prior to the event, the team comprising 15 four-wheel-drive vehicles and some 30 volunteers surveyed Kampung Apau Nyaring and Long Liaw in Ulu Sungai Tinjar, Baram.

Kampung Apau Nyaring is a Penan village with a 43-door longhouse of 200 residents who are without electricity or treated water supply.

Some villagers do not have identity cards and many of their children do not go to school as the nearest school in Long San is too far.

Instead, the children study at a learning centre operated by St Paul Church in Long San.

Similarly, Long Liaw which is also without electricity and treated water supply, relies on one small generator to light up 35 houses for over 100 villagers. The nearest school is located at Long Aton.

Hope Place is appealing for donation of biscuits (350 boxes), noodles (350 boxes), 2kg cooking oil (450 bottles), 1kg salt (510 packs), 1kg sugar (510 packs), 900g oats (400 packs) and 1kg Milo (400 packs).

To donate, call Hope Place on 082-505987 from 8.30am-5.30pm (Monday to Friday) and 8.45am-noon on Saturdays.

Donations may also be deposited into its Maybank account (5112-8900-1160) under the name ‘Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching’.
