Lions collaborate with Bau Hospital to serve villagers

KUCHING: A team from Zone 2 Lions Clubs here and Lions Club of Jasin Melaka carried out a rural community service project at Kampung Gumbang, Bau in collaboration with Bau District Hospital and Kampung Gumbang Development and Security Committee (JKKK)recently.

Led by Zone 2 chairman Ho Yen Choon, the team was given a traditional welcome by villagers headed by Ketua Kampung Atok Derop.

The medical team comprising Dr Kannan Ramakrishan, Dr Michelle Tan, Dr Edgar Tay, Dr Lee Vui Chin and Matron Atar Nyadin conducted health screening for blood sugar, blood pressure, BMI, tooth extraction and pap smear, while Lions members and villagers participated in a blood donation campaign led by Myra Ellena Stimol.

About a hundred villagers including 32 senior citizens were screened with 17 referred to Bau General Hospital for further evaluation and a total of 42 women had pap smear test.

Guest-of-honour, Miros Simuh commended the Lions Clubs for collaborating with the medical team to serve the local community.

Lions Club of Kuching Hornbill, Lions Club of Jasin Malacca, Lions Club of Kuching Kota Sentosa and Lions Club of Kuching Emerald jointly donated food items to 60 single mothers, the elderly and orphans as well as school bags and stationary to needy school children.

Region chairperson Helena Lim and past district governor Sim Boon Chuan gave away 90 boxes of Anmum Essential Milk Powder donated by Fonterra Brands (M) Sdn Bhd to 45 children aged 1 to 6 years on behalf of Lions Clubs International, District 308-A2.

The team of volunteers and villagers were treated to a traditional lunch when Lions members interact with villagers.
