BINTULU: The Bintulu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) Trade Fair 2019 has attracted nearly 60 business players from various sectors across Sarawak.

The four-day event, set for its official opening this Nov 21, will be taking place at Naim Bintulu Paragon – running from 9am to 9pm daily.

According to organising chairman Alex Woo, almost 60 booths have been taken up.

“For now, we still have a limited number of booths left, so if there’s anyone interested, hopefully they could come and approach us.

“We are making this event for the people of Bintulu, so we hope the local traders would also come and take part,” he spoke during a press conference at Naim Bintulu Paragon Office yesterday.

Woo said the BCCCI Trade Fair 2019 would be the largest event of its kind here this year and in view of this, various activities had been arranged for the visitors.

Among them would be the Ultimate Muaythai International Bintulu Championships, BCCCI Miss Borneo 2019, a blood donation drive, a taekwondo challenge and a children’s talent show.

Woo said for all these activities, the organiser had set a targeted turnout of between 15,000 and 20,000 people throughout the four days.

Meanwhile, organising chairman of the muaythai meet Jacky Yong Ka Yein, said cash prizes worth a total of RM70,000 await the top contenders.

According to him, a total of 80 male and female fighters from Malaysia including 18 from Bintulu, Thailand, Cambodia, Brunei, and Indonesia would be taking part.

“The fights will kick off at 10am on Nov 23, with 15 bouts in the daytime, and seven international bouts at night.”

Yong said the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony, at around 8pm.

“There will be the Super-Four encounters involving fighters from Kuching, Samarahan, Miri and Bintulu – all eyeing the Head of State (TYT) Cup.

“On the second day (Nov 24), there will be about 20 bouts – a mix of international and local fights.”

On BCCCI Miss Borneo 2019, organising chairperson Sharyn Tang said 18 contestants from Sibu, Miri, Kuching and Bintulu had registered for the event so far. The participants, aged between 18 and 26, should arrive here this Nov 21, she said.

“The beauty pageant will commence at 1.30pm on Nov 22.

“They (contestants) will begin with the sportswear segment, followed by the individual talent show with three minutes allotted to each contestant.”

Tang said 10 finalists would be selected for the finale on Nov 24, set to commence around 6pm.

She said total prizes worth nearly RM10,000 would be given away to the top three contestants, as well as the seven consolation prize winners.

In his remarks, Naim Holdings Bhd regional general manager (property division) Stephen Ling Nai Ik said with Naim as the main sponsor of the event, the management hoped to gain strong public support for the event.

“We also hope to have more collaborations for this kind of event in the future.”

Meanwhile Andy Yek, who is BCCCI Youth Entrepreneur Section chairman, said local business players and those from outside Bintulu were encouraged to take up the booths in BCCCI Trade Fair 2019.
