LAHAD DATU: Traps will be installed by the Wildlife Department following the sighting of a crocodile recently at the beach at Felda Sahabat 16.

Sabah Wildlife Department officer Sylvester Saimin said signboards warning of the presence of crocodiles have been installed before.

However, as the area is frequently visited by people during weekends and holidays, action will be taken to install more signboards in the area, he said.

He added that the department is looking into this matter seriously as the presence of crocodiles could endanger the lives of the public.

“Inspection of the work being done and monitoring of the area yesterday evening (Thursday) found that the reptile could still be seen at the beach. Therefore, we will install traps to catch the reptile, and urged the public who come to the area to always be on the alert to avoid any untoward incident,” he added.

On Thursday, a video clip of the reptile believed to be in the midst of devouring a dog was uploaded on Facebook, and most netizens have become worried as the area is one of the popular recreational areas in the district.
