KUCHING: The Ministry of Education has formally approved the relocation of SJKC Kai Nang from Sibu to Kuching.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen received the approval letter for the school’s relocation from Deputy Minister of Education Teo Nie Ching today.

The Ministry of Education also approved in principle an initial allocation of RM2 million for the building of the new school, and the sum is currently pending disbursement from the Finance Ministry.

The Ministry of Education has formally approved the moving of SJKC Kai Nang from Sibu to Kuching upon the application of the existing Board of Management of the SJKC Kai Nang.

The current site of SJKC Kai Nang is facing a huge problem in recruiting students as there are two Chinese primary schools nearby.

In 2017, a developer in Kuching had proposed to donate a piece of land of approximately 10 acres from his development project located in Riveria, Kota Samarahan for the relocation of the school from Sibu to Kuching.

In April earlier this year, the SJKC Kai Nang Board of Management approached Chong to assist in following up with the Ministry of Education on the matter, and within half a year the application was finally approved.

Also present during the handing over of the approval letter from Teo to Chong were Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, Sibu MP Oscar Ling, Lanang MP Alice Lau and Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu.
