MIRI: Members of Sarawak Bisaya Association have been reminded to continue working together on ways to improve the community’s well-being.

Utilities Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi in saying this viewed the staging sport events such as the President Trophy as a way of bringing members from various branches closer to exchange ideas and thoughts.

“I’ve been informed that Sarawak Bisaya Association is one of the associations under the umbrella of Federation of Orang Ulu Associations of Sarawak, Malaysia (Forum).

“This association has been active in organising the Babulang Festival and Buffalo Race since 2004. It is my hope that you will continue to support the association’s leadership so that this association will be able to move forward actively in order to push the Bisaya community to greater heights,” he said.

Dr Rundi’s text-of-speech was read by Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who represented the minister to officiate at the Sarawak Bisaya Association Miri Branch Annual Dinner cum President Trophy Launching Ceremony, here on Saturday.

Dennis later announced he would be giving a grant of RM8,000 for Sarawak Bisaya Association Miri branch, before informing guests that Dr Rundi had also pledged a grant of RM10,000.

Earlier, the Sarawak Bisaya Association president Datu Antonio Kahti Galis, who is also the Miri branch chairman, stressed the importance of members working together in moving the association forward.

“Without support from members, the association will be unable to carry out activities planned at both headquarters and branch levels,” he said.

Antonio then proceeded to announce grants from Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang and Baram MP Anyi Ngau to Sarawak Bisaya Association Miri branch, amounting to RM5,000 and RM10,000 respectively.
