MIRI: Flooding at an area near Holiday Park and Strawberry Park here will no longer be a problem once the upgrading of the drainage there is completed, says Datuk Sebastian Ting.
The Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture said the three-month project kicked off on Oct 22 and is scheduled for completion on Jan 21 next year.
He said the improvement to the drainage would allow water to be diverted to Jalan Armeria and Jalan Aru Utama; thus resolving flooding issues faced by the residents.
“This project is to improve the drainage so that when it rains, the area near Holiday Park and Strawberry Park will not be flooded as the water will be diverted to another outlet,” said Ting during a site visit yesterday.
however, the Piasau assemblyman said the project was slightly behind schedule as the sub-contractor had to cease work due to utility-related issues.
“Work will resume soon when the matter is resolved with the respective parties such as Sesco, Sarawak Gas, Telekom and Laku (Laku Management Sdn Bhd).”
Ting said the cost of the project was RM535,300, covering the construction of a 160m drain and culvert, as well as road widening and other related works.
He also explained that the current works were not disrupting supply of water to residents in the surrounding area.
