MIRI: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday handed a cheque for RM1 million to SM Pei Min Miri.

The cheque was received by fundraising organising chairman Datuk Hii King Chong on behalf of the school.

Present to witness the presentation were Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting, SM Pei Min board of directors chairman Khor Ooi Long and members of SM Pei Min board of directors.

According to Khor, the funds were promised by the chief minister last year.

He disclosed that currently, the project to construct the administration block and its interior was 70 per cent completed and the school was still short of RM6 million to complete the whole project.

He thus welcomed generous contributions from the public and corporate bodies to help complete the building by next year.

“We hope that we can raise enough funds for the project that will boost learning and teaching in the school,” he said further.

He disclosed that to date, they had received half of the RM17 million needed to complete the project which involves construction of the administration block (RM15 million) and its interior (RM2 million).

When completed, the school will be able to take in more students and have an environment that is conducive for learning and teaching besides providing convenience to the students, teachers and administration staff.
